Right On Rietveld

Yellow makes me so happy!

The Studio Job House which incorporates

a villa originally designed by Gerrit Rietveld
( the man responsible for the iconic Zig Zag chair)
during the 1950's for a 'left wing' weaving mill,
in the then sleepy village of Bergeyk the Netherlands
has been fully renovated including a new villa construction,
and is now living its life as an open house style laboratory for art and design

Muriel Brandolini - trailblazing woman of design

I can blame my absence from the The Decorator entirely on one thing.....

ever since unpacking this sturdy volume ordered only days ago.....
(wonderful service I have to say all the way from USA to little ol' me)...
I have been glued to these pages.

this is the story of a woman who had the need to create, and went with her gut feeling, no matter how seemingly unconventional her aesthetic may have been. someone who has an instinctual capacity to create beauty in the boldest and most fearless way. someone who knows how to be truly eclectic in ways most of us could not imagine.

I am refreshed and invigorated by these pages! this has truly inspired me to be as good as I can be!

I am intrigued by the way Brandolini puts the most disparate elements of design together. Textiles, antiques, bespoke embroideries, appliques, and contemporary design in furniture and lighting all speak to her obviously in ways that most of us would never conceive.
